Privacy policy
OmniLingo (omnilingo.us and the OmniLingo apps for iPhone and Android) is a free course about artificial intelligence, run by Padmanabhan PB ("we"). This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, and the email address from Google or Apple, or the mobile number you signed in with on WhatsApp. If you sign in with Apple and choose "Hide my email", we only see Apple's relay address.
- Your learning: lessons completed, test scores, lab notes you write, review cards, XP, streaks, and the friend groups you create or join.
- Messages you send us from the Contact page, and our replies.
- Security records: when you sign up or sign in, the IP address and browser or app type, kept for 90 days to stop abuse and automated sign-ups.
- Website visits: when you open a page on omnilingo.us, the page, your IP address, the approximate city and area worked out from it, your browser type, and the website that linked you here (its name only). We keep this for 90 days to see where visitors come from and to stop abuse. It is worked out on our own server, not by an outside analytics company, and only OmniLingo administrators can see it.
- Your phone, if you use the app: a push notification token and your language, so we can send the daily news and streak reminders you switched on.
We do not collect your contacts, precise (GPS) location, photos or microphone. There are no advertising or third-party tracking tools in OmniLingo, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.
Why we use it
- To run your account and keep your progress across devices.
- To show friend-group leaderboards — only to members of that group, and only your first name and last initial.
- To answer your messages.
- To keep the service safe: blocking bots, investigating abuse, protecting admin accounts.
- To send the notifications you chose. You can turn each one off in the app at any time.
Who else is involved
- Google and Apple confirm who you are when you sign in with them.
- Twilio and Meta (WhatsApp) deliver sign-in codes when you use your phone number.
- Expo delivers push notifications to the app.
- An AI translation service translates course text and news headlines. Only public course and news text is sent — never your personal data, notes or messages.
- Our hosting provider (Hetzner, Germany) stores the data on our servers.
News links take you to the original publishers, whose own privacy policies apply.
How long we keep it
Account and learning data are kept while you have an account. Sign-in security records are deleted after 90 days. Unused sign-in codes are deleted within a day.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time: on the website under Profile, or in the app under Me → Delete my account. This removes your progress, cards, test results, messages and the groups you run. Security records stay for up to 90 days without being linked to you.
- Correct your name in your profile.
- Ask us for a copy of your data or anything else about this policy through the Contact page.
If you are in India, you have the rights described in the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including to access, correct and erase your data and to raise a grievance with us through the Contact page. If you are elsewhere, the rights in your local law apply as well.
Children
OmniLingo is written simply so young people can learn from it, but accounts are for people aged 13 or older (or the minimum age where you live). A parent or guardian can ask us to delete a child's account through the Contact page. Lessons and news can be read without an account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so on the site and in the app before it takes effect.
