Jobs of the future and skills AI can't replace

AI will change many jobs and create new ones. The skills that matter most are ones you can start building today.

1/5
In simple words
Long ago, people didn't have jobs like app designer or YouTuber, because those things didn't exist yet. When new tools arrive, some jobs change, some fade, and brand-new ones appear. AI is a new tool like that.

AI as a helper at work

WhoHow AI can help
DoctorsSpotting possible problems in scans so a doctor can look more closely
FarmersTips on weather, crops and plant diseases from a phone photo
ScientistsSorting huge amounts of data to find patterns faster
TeachersMaking practice questions so they have more time for students
In each case, the person still decides, checks and cares. AI helps, and people stay in charge.

Skills AI can't replace

SkillWhat it looks like for you
CuriosityAsking "why?" and "what if?"
Asking good questionsKnowing what to ask, to people and to AI
TeamworkWorking well in a group project or a cricket team
KindnessNoticing how others feel and helping
CommunicationExplaining your ideas clearly, speaking and writing
CreativityComing up with new ideas and making things
Checking factsNot believing everything, even from AI
Learning how to learnPicking up new skills again and again
Do this
Good news: you are already building these skills at school, at home, in games and with friends. Every question you ask and every team you play in counts.

What you can do now

  1. 1

    Stay curious

Explore topics you love, not just for marks.
  2. 2

    Practise with people

Group projects, sports, clubs, helping at home.
  3. 3

    Use AI wisely

As a study buddy and a tool, checking its answers.
  4. 4

    Keep learning

New tools will keep coming. Being ready to learn is your superpower.
Try this. Ask an adult in your family: "How has your work changed since you were young? What new tools did you have to learn?"

Lab

A short interview with an adult about how their work has changed, and your own skills map.

~15 min

The problem

Talk to a parent, relative, neighbour or teacher about their work.

  1. Ask 3 questions: What do you do at work? What new tools have you learned? Which of your skills can no machine do?
  2. Write their answers in short notes.
  3. Draw a "skills map" of yourself: write your name in the middle and add 5 skills from this lesson around it, with one example of when you used each.
  4. Circle one skill you want to grow this month, and write one small step.

Hard questions

Try to answer before you reveal. If you can answer these, you understood the lesson.

Q1Why are "asking good questions" and "checking facts" even more important when AI is everywhere?Reveal

AI answers what you ask, so a good question gets a much better answer. And because AI can be confidently wrong, someone must check. People who ask well and check carefully get the most from AI and avoid its mistakes.

Q2Why is it hard to predict exactly which jobs will exist when you grow up?Reveal

New tools are invented, people find new uses for them, and whole new kinds of work appear that nobody imagined before. That's why building skills that fit many jobs is smarter than guessing one exact job today.

Questions people ask

Will AI take all the jobs?

No one knows exactly how the future will look. What we do know is that jobs have always changed with new tools, and new kinds of work appear. People who keep learning and work well with others adapt best.

Do I have to become a computer engineer?

Not at all. AI will be used in almost every field: art, health, farming, sports, business, teaching. Follow what you love, and learn to use tools well in that field.

What should I study to be ready?

Do your best in your subjects, especially reading, writing and maths, and keep up hobbies that build creativity and teamwork. These foundations help in any future job.
